We pray for the peace of Jerusalem and for peace in our times. Amen.Įvening: Father God, thank You that Jesus came humbly, riding on a donkey, proclaiming peace. We praise You now and will praise You throughout the coming day, in Jesus’ name. We celebrate Him today as King and ask that His Kingdom come in our lives, too. We acknowledge our need for salvation from our sins and rejoice that Jesus is our Deliverer. You promised salvation through the Messiah and today we remember that Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies of our promised Redeemer. Morning: Father God, Your Word is true, and You are faithful. Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, fulfilling the Messianic prophecy from Zechariah 9:9 and recorded in Matthew 21:1-11, Mark 11:1-11, Luke 19:28-44, and John 12:12-19. ![]() Then the week intensifies with Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy (or Black) Saturday, and finally, Resurrection Sunday-Easter! Palm Sunday Prayers: Holy Monday, Holy Tuesday, and Holy (or Spy) Wednesday follow. Traditionally, Holy week begins each year with a celebration of Palm Sunday. 16 Holy Week Prayers - For Each Morning and Evening Prayer positions us to be open to the work of His Holy Spirit in our lives and to revive our hearts in Christ. We humble ourselves and recommit our lives to Jesus and to proclaiming His kingdom come to our generation and the next. As we prepare to celebrate His resurrection, we are reminded that our forgiveness was bought with a price. Jesus’ actions during Holy Week are the culmination of generations of longing for the coming Messiah-God’s promised Redeemer. Why Should We Pray and Prepare Our Hearts for Easter? It’s an important time to remember that the cross isn’t simply a piece of jewelry we wear or an icon we embrace, but it was a beautiful agony undertaken by our God, who loved us so much He sent His only Son to die so that we might have eternal life. Be strong in the Spirit in your life and ministry. With so many demands on our time and attention, opening and closing each day of Holy Week with prayer can quiet our hearts. The effective Christian worker must have the power of the Holy Spirit, but that power must be expressed in a loving spirit, or it may do damage. Paul reminds Timothy that God has not given us a spirit of timidity or cowardice, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline (v 7). Are you aware of your God-given gifts? Are you using them in his service? This would most naturally be taken as the time of Timothy’s ordination. These godly women had instructed Timothy out of the Old Testament so that from childhood he had ‘known the Holy Scriptures.’3 Timothy is urged to ‘fan into flame the gift of God’ (v 6) given to him when Paul laid his hands on him. His grandmother Lois had evidently been converted, for Paul talks of the ‘sincere faith’ of all three generations (v 5). His father was Greek and presumably an unbeliever, his mother Eunice was a believing Jewish woman who became a Christian. Timothy had a godly mother and grandmother. He was a stalwart soldier, but he had a tender heart. In Paul’s letters we see his real humanity. ‘Long’ (see v 4) is a word expressing intense desire. Paul ‘constantly’ remembers Timothy in his prayers (v 3).2 He must have had a large heart to carry such a loving concern for so many people. In his first letter, Paul greeted Timothy as ‘my true son in the faith.’1 Here his greeting is ‘my dear son’ (v 2), showing his warm affection for his young convert and colleague. Appeal for Loyalty to Paul and the GospelĦ For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. ![]() 4 Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. Thanksgivingģ I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, in keeping with the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus,
